Kim’s practice includes advising and representing clients on a range of corporate matters, with an emphasis on domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and commercial transactions, including intellectual property and licensing matters.
With nearly three decades of experience as an attorney, including being a partner-in-charge of the German office of a large U.S. international law firm, Kim has represented clients in multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and venture financing, securities offerings (including IPOs) and corporate governance matters. He was lead outside counsel for Deutsche Telekom in the purchase of a 20% interest in Sprint and in the formation of a joint venture with France Telecom and Sprint.
Kim helped found Ciena Corporation and Corvis Corporation, two companies that he was instrumental in taking public in high-profile IPOs with market caps in excess of $10 billion. Kim has also served as a General Counsel and head of M&A at Corvis Corporation and Broadwing Corporation and his business and finance experience and strategic perspective have made him a key advisor to clients in a variety of industries. Kim represented Broadwing Corporation in its sale to Level 3 for $1.6 billion.
As founding member of Blu Venture Investors, an angel investor group and Capital Creation, LLC, a start-up accelerator, both based in Washington, D.C., Kim has participated in over 25 Tech Start-Ups. With a particular focus on assisting start-ups and other emerging technology companies, Kim frequently advises private business owners and chief financial officers regarding raising capital, intellectual property rights, and key strategic issues that impact the growth and success of small and medium-size companies. Kim is an outstanding problem solver who brings both in-depth legal and business acumen to the obstacles that face his clients.
Kim speaks fluent German and is interested in history and woodworking.
